A shower tray is a watertight tub with a drain in it. A shower tray can have different heights, from almost flat (two or three centimetres) to around fourteen centimetres, Maxaro even has one with a height of sixteen centimetres in its range. A high shower tray is sturdy. It is often fitted with a stainless steel frame, making it enormously stable. A high shower tray stands out a little more in a bathroom and, in combination with a shower cabin, gives the feeling of a room within a room. One drawback can be that getting into such a high shower tray takes a bit more effort. For people who are a bit older, or have worse mobility, a high shower tray is therefore not recommended.
High shower tray hip and super practical!
A high shower tray has several advantages. Wondering which ones they are? In this blog we tell you all about them.
Concrete or acrylic tray
A shower tray used to be made of concrete and could be high or low. Concrete was poured and the raised edges were bricked from solid bricks. The tiling was glued and grouted and thus the shower tray was watertight. The disadvantage, of course, was that it involved chopping and breaking if you wanted to move the shower or if a repair was needed. The sheet steel shower tray was a lot more practical, but very cold to the feet, slippery and very heavy. Still later, the plastic shower tray came on the market. Strong and light, and easy to install. Acrylic is currently the most common material, and it is usually reinforced with fibreglass. Plastic is easily moulded and thus 'ribbed', greatly reducing the risk of slipping.
High has advantages!
A high shower tray can be fitted with a widened edge or a raised corner section. Useful as a footrest or as a seat for your child to sit on while you rinse him/her off. For very small children, the high shower tray can act as a "paddling pool". Put the plug on the drain, a bit of foam and some toys in it. If you open thedoorsof the shower enclosure then close them, the bathing party can begin without a water ballet.
A high shower tray comes with a pot set. Fitting these under the shower tray prevents the tray from sagging. A steel frame is another solution to counteract this. The tray itself is then made of a strong plastic, for example acrylic reinforced with glass fibre, or the high-quality plastic SMC. The height of the shower tray can sometimes be adjusted using the pot set. A high shower tray usually comes with a skirting to neatly conceal pot sets under the shower tray underside.
