Leaking ceramic tap
Repairing a leaking ceramic tap starts by turning off the main tap. Then the knob has to come off the tap. How to do this varies from tap to tap. Sometimes there is a cover button that can be pushed up with a screwdriver. Behind it is the screw that needs to be loosened. The tap's control knob can then be removed. The inside can now be seen. Using a spanner, unscrew the upper part of the tap and take it out. That part needs to be replaced. Every tap has a different interior so it is important to know exactly which one you need. Write down the brand and type number, or take the whole upper part to a tap specialist. Fit the new upper part in the tap, replace the control knob and open the main tap.
Leaking tap with a tap valve
Also when repairing a tap with a tap leak, first close the main tap. When the water is out of the pipe, turn the knob of the tap and then unscrew the upper part of the tap. Now you can access the inner workings. At the bottom of this is a rubber disc. This is the tap lever. The rubber owes its name to the materials from which this tap component used to be made, i.e. leather. Nowadays it is made of rubber, but it is still called a tap 'leather'. The broken tap 'leather' needs to be replaced. They can be bought everywhere, packaged as a set. Such a set contains various sizes of tap leathers so that the right size is always there. Loosen the screw attaching the old one, insert the new one and tighten the screw again. If you replace a tap leather, it is wise to replace the gasket ring at the same time to prevent possible leakage. The gasket ring is located between the interior and the tap body. Replace all parts and fit the knob. Then turn the main tap back on and the repair is complete.
