Our blog series Maxaro makeover features our customers. Nothing is more fun and inspiring than looking inside someone else's home! Recently, we spoke to Erik and Marius about the remodelling of their bathroom. The couple enlarged the space, finally fulfilling a long-cherished wish: a bathtub in the bathroom. Read all about the makeover in this blog and dream away at the beautiful end result.

A real bathroom with a bath

The old bathroom didn't feel like a real bathroom to Erik and Marius. "Actually, it was a bathroom, but then again, it wasn't," says Erik. The presence of a washing machine and tumble dryer made it feel more like a laundry room. After 13 years, the couple was determined to do something about the space as well as fulfil their long-cherished wish: a bathtub. In the 2.50 x 2.50 bathroom, there was not enough room for a bathtub and a walk-in shower. As showering in the bath was not an option for Erik and Marius, another solution had to be found.

The solution for more space

The couple decided to move the washer and dryer to the attic. "We had a loft ladder to the attic and you couldn't get a washing machine through that, so we had a fixed staircase installed," says Erik. The installation of a fixed staircase in April allowed the household appliances to move safely to the attic and freed up space in the bathroom.

To gain even more space, Erik and Marius followed the example of their neighbours. "Our neighbours had already remodelled their bathroom several years ago and as the overflow was quite large, a piece of it could be removed. Through werkspot, we started looking for a contractor. We had several contractors come to see what the options were and then decided to move the wall that was in there, so that we got 1 metre 20 to the bathroom," Erik continues his story.

According to the picture

It was one of the contractors who tipped the couple off to go to Maxaro. "We were really completely actually a bit perplexed how big the showroom in Roosendaal was. As far as you could see all the baths and shower screens and on the other side the tiles," Erik says. "Of course, you also look at the prices and then you're surprised. That you think, actually, the prices are not that bad. It's serious money, but it's just a fair price, that you think yes, you see, it can be done."

The couple had a Bath in their sights very quickly and the choice of a walk-in shower with Black stripes was also made fairly quickly. Since Erik and Marius already had a bit of an idea for the tiles, they soon ended up with a white bathroom unit. "In the end, we saw a high-gloss white bathroom unit with a natural stone worktop. We actually both said right away: yes this is it," Erik says. "Yes, that suited it really well. And it also fitted within all the Pinterest pictures," Marius confirms. "So in the end, Pinterest was also a bit of a source of inspiration and yes at Maxaro everything came together," Erik concludes.

The ultimate hotel feel

Erik and Marius' new bathroom is a hit. "It's been quite a journey, but it's really been worth it. It's what I say, it's three weeks of hard work, but then when you're lying in Bath for the first time with your glass of wine, you're like, yes, this is it, actually," Erik says.

"Of course, it always remains to be seen how it turns out," Marius adds. "The advantage was that, unlike the other suppliers, everything was visible. So that there were corners with set-ups showing what the tiles look like in a particular arrangement and the bath and shower screens. We actually didn't find that with the other providers. That you could still get a bit of an idea of what it will look like at your place."

"Of course, you have thought of everything separately and you have everything separately, but to finally see it come together as one whole is really unique, really nice. Every day it's still strange. It's still the feeling of oh I'm in a hotel, it's not our bathroom. Yes, it is. Yeah fantastic, really great," Erik says proudly.

Highlights in the bathroom

With so much beauty, it is not easy to name one element that really stands out. "It actually all stands out. Even everyone we show the photos to, they say oh what a beautiful bath, oh what beautiful shower screens, oh what a beautiful bathroom unit. It's all beautiful," Erik points out. "You also see a lot of wood these days with those bathroom units and of course we thought about that too, but I'm really glad we took that white one. It really just stands out," Marius says. Erik can only confirm this: "Especially with that natural stone, so ridiculously beautiful."

Erik and Marius' gold tip

The gold tip Erik gives is: "Just go and have a look. Get inspired, marvel at all the possibilities there are and also get informed about other possibilities." For example, the couple informed themselves about electric radiators. This turned out to be the ideal solution to heat the bathroom wonderfully, without having to set the heating downstairs to twenty-five degrees because of the good insulation. "We weren't aware of this until we came to Maxaro," says the couple.

"Know what you want, too, you know, because you're staring blindly at everything that's out there," Marius points out. "Take a picture in your head or on your phone and take that and yes just make a base of what you want and at least go from there. That does it very well I think to be able to make a choice," Erik agrees wholeheartedly: "Indeed, think about what you want beforehand and then go look and get inspired, because your mouth really literally falls open when you step inside Roosendaal."
