Are you going to remodel your bathroom yourself? One of the most important jobs is installing the shower tray. Installing the shower tray is not hugely difficult, but it is important to do it properly. After all, you want to enjoy your brand new shower for years to come, right? Seven steps will ensure that your shower tray stands firmly.
Supplies:
- Shower tray
- Whitewood laths 50x50 cm
- Tiles
- Tile adhesive
- Tile grout
- Siphon
- Sanitary sealant
Step-by-step plan:
1. Fix the beams
Use a spirit level to draw a plumb line on the wall at the location of the shower tray. Saw the pine batten to size and drill it to the wall at the level of the line.
2. Adjust the screw feet
Now lay the shower tray - to fit - in place. Adjust the levelling feet so that the shower tray rests on the wooden beams.
3. Spray sanitary sealant
Spray sanitary sealant in a zigzag manner onto both the aerated concrete blocks and the wooden beams. Now carefully lower the shower tray into place. Make sure the drain is on the right side.
4. Glue the drain in place
Now connect the drain via the hole in the aerated concrete blocks and glue it in place.
5. Seal the hole in the concrete block
You can seal the hole in the concrete block with the remaining piece of aerated concrete. This is the simplest option. However, in this case you have to bear in mind that it is difficult to reach the drain if something is wrong with it. Another option is to make a special trapdoor with magnets out of plywood. Is the drain broken? Then it's easy to reach.
6. Tile the surround
Now tile the surround with tiles of your choice. Use good tile adhesive. Let the glue dry for at least 24 hours.
7. Jointing and sealing
After these 24 hours, you can joint the tiles and seal the edges of the shower tray. The day after, your shower tray is ready for use!
