We all love showering and spend a lot of time under the hot or, on the contrary, cold water jets. Yet there are undoubtedly some things you do not yet know about this wonderful moment of relaxation. How much water do we consume? And is it necessary to shower every day? You can read all about it in this blog.
1. Shower = cistern
The word shower comes from French and literally means 'cistern'. This word has been adopted in several languages. For example, Spaniards speak of a 'ducha' and in Norway they go under the 'dusj'.
Inspiring shower sessions
Perhaps recognisable to many: you try all day to think of a good idea, to no avail. But when you jump in the shower, you are suddenly brimming with inspiration. You are not the only one, as three quarters of people get their best ideas while showering. Young people in particular get inspired by a shower session. 20% of people therefore jump in the shower to think or solve a problem.
3. How often do you shower?
Nowadays, more than three quarters of the Dutch population takes a shower every day. Some 30% even take a shower several times a day. For example, in the morning and again after exercising. Research continues to show that it is not at all necessary to shower that often. In fact, twice a week is enough. In the meantime, the skin recovers from the chemical additives found in shampoo and shower gel.
The benefits of cold water
Taking a cold shower is ideal for the skin. Although 93% of Dutch people prefer a hot shower, cold water refreshes your skin. Moreover, it gives you more energy. Furthermore, cold water is good for the immune system. This is because the cold water constricts blood vessels and tightens your skin.
