Before installing newfloor tilesyou will first need to remove the old tiles. If the old layer of floor tiles is glued down, the job is usually fairly easy. If the floor tiles are laid in cement, then it gets trickier, but with the right tools and a good dose of perseverance, it can be done. It often happens that underfloor heating has been laid under the floor tiles. Usually you will know if this is the case, or you can find out. It is best to remove the floor tiles without damaging the underfloor heating. Therefore, it is also useful to know the composition of the old floor, and what type or brand of underfloor heating is underneath. In the case of an electric underfloor heating mat (foil), you almost never manage to do it without damaging it.
Removing floor tiles succeeds with good tools
Have you bought new floor tiles and it is not possible to install them over the current tiles? This blog tells you how to remove the old tiles.

Removing glued-down floor tiles
A proven method for removing glued-down floor tiles is with a shovel or spade. You insert this as diagonally/flatly as possible under the tiles. It is necessary to make a start first: this is best done with a chisel and hammer. Once you have a start, continue with the spade. There is also a wide type of trowel on the market that works handy. Once all the floor tiles have been removed, sand down the glue residue from the floor to the flat cement screed. Sanding generates a lot of dust, but a construction hoover will do a good job of dusting the floor. The new floor tiles can then be laid on top of this.
Removing cement floor tiles
Not everyone will have an air-powered floor removal hammer in their garage. Fortunately, such a device can be rented and comes with different types of chisels. It should be a device with a powerful compressor. Make sure you let the device and the chisel do the work. It is then a matter of walking quietly behind the device and steering it properly. Take your time with it. You may damage the cement floor under the floor tiles. In that case, it is necessary to level the cement screed before laying new floor tiles over it. Then ask yourself whether you will use cement again, or whether you will glue the new floor tiles. This is because then they will be much easier to remove, should you ever need to.
