To use your radiator, you will need a matching radiator valve set. These come in different versions, so you need to consider a number of factors when buying. Our handy selection guide gives you more information about this and helps you choose the right radiator valve set for your radiator.

What is a radiator valve set?

A radiator valve set consists of a thermostatic valve that connects the supply pipe to the radiator, and a foot valve that connects the return pipe to the radiator. The valve controls the amount of water flowing out of the radiator. This makes it easy to temporarily shut off the radiator if you want to remove or replace it, for example.

Which set you need depends on the type of radiator you have and how the supply and return pipes enter the room.

Horizontal radiators

A horizontally mounted radiator where the supply and return pipes come out of the wall needs a single angle connection. If both pipes come from the floor, then take a double right-angle connection.

Vertical radiators

Do you have a vertical radiator and do the supply and return pipes come out of the wall? If both pipes come out of the floor, you need a radiator valve set with a straight connection.

We advise you to connect the radiator from the bottom side, but in the case of a towel radiator it is also possible to connect it from the top, for which you need a radiator valve set with a straight connection and a flow tube. The tube ensures that the hot water is first brought downwards. At the bottom, the water is released and due to the heat, it rises again. This way, the radiator flows well, heating it optimally.

Double right-angle connection

With a double right-angle connection, it is important to determine the position of the radiator's connection points. These can be at the bottom of the radiator in the middle or at the side.

Centre
If the radiator's connection points are in the bottom centre and the left-hand pipe is the supply pipe, you will take a left-hand thermostatic tap. Naturally, you choose a right-handed thermostatic tap if the supply comes from the right pipe. This will prevent the foot valve from hitting the thermostatic tap.

Side
Are the connection points on the side and do you want the thermostatic tap to be neatly concealed under the radiator? Then the choice is as follows: if the left pipe is the supply pipe, choose a right-handed thermostatic tap. A left-handed tap will apply if the right pipe is the supply pipe.
